Led Zeppelin tickets were $6.50 first time I saw them !

Led Zeppelin tickets were $6.50 first time I saw them !

It was the Fillmore East and we went to see a British guy, Terry Reid. He was bottom of the bill that night. Top that night was Iron Butterfly wearing out Ina-gada-da-crapa. A drum solo song that could have been shortened about 22 minutes.Terry was great, what a set of lungs.
But middle of the bill was Jimmy Page's new band. He was coming out of the Yardbirds and was already a guitar god. This was their first time in the States.
Zep rocked the house down, got an ovation. And when Butterfly came on, people were yellin' to bring Zep back.

Then there was the time I had to give away a pair of tickets to see them at Convention Hall in Asbury Park. I bought them, and a few weeks latter found out Woodstock 1 was the same weekend. And Wood.1 was 16.50 I think for all 3 days. Plus Jeff Beck was on the bill, so maybe Zep would stop by and jam?!
As it turned out, neither showed up. But the rest is history. I gave the ticks. to a couple of my roadies.

IKE TURNER - R.I.P

RIP - Ike Turner

Remember This : The man was given credit to have written the Very First rocknroll song ! He was a producer, writer, singer, guitar and piano player before he got into all the bad stuff with drugs and wife beatin' on Tina. That song, Rocket ' 88 was about the Oldsmobile car model named that.

No, I'm not That old to remember that ! But I was on a Sun Studio Tour a few years back, while in Memphis for the Blues Festival Week. And the tour mentioned that as part of their history as a music studio, and some of the others who were around. You know, some guy named Elvis and another, I think his name was friggen' Jerry Lee !

Helio Castroneves Wins

Helio Castroneves was not the best dancer, although he and his partner won Dancing with the Starz. But America voted. Probably a lot of female voters. After all, he is a good looking Latin (Brazilian), rich race car driver living in Miami. He really is a fun loving guy though, that you can't help but like.

When he won his first Indy 500, I interviewed him at Tavern On The Green in Central Park,NYC at a press party. He said he knew people were having a problem pronouncing his name in his introductory speech. Sooo, latter when I had a chance to interview him one on one, I introduced him to the camera as Julio Inglesias. He laughed so hard...... The interview went great because he saw I wasn't gonna be like the rest of the dumb ass NY press, who really know nothing about racing to begin with ! Think I'll rerun that interview if I can find the tape........

Thulcandra at Max's Kansas City

Here's a quick addition to the Ramones / Linda Stein Blog....

Here is a flyer from when we played Max's Kansas City in NYC.

A Ramones / Linda Stein Memory

Yesterday my administrator Sineddie, who has been taking care of my new internet ventures along with helping video the show this summer and has been a musical cohort for awhile now, asked if I had any interesting Ramone's stories to blog.(He knew I did, but just wanted me to put one out there).

Then last night Linda Stein was murdered in NYC.She was a co-manager of The Ramones at one time. Now I'm not saying Ed had anything to do with the murder, but the timing was a little scary here, ya think?! On friggin' Halloween too. And if you've seen or heard the reports, this was an inside job. And it probably has something to do with her past/present associations with her real-estate and music friends. We'll see in the next few days how this pans out.

In the 70's I was sitting at a table with her and her husband at Max's Kansas City in NYC. I can't remember if it was a showcase or contract signing party
that we were there for. The "we" was my future better half who worked for the record company Jem Records at the time here in NJ. After the Ramones played they turned to her and asked what she thought. She said they were gonna make allot of money for them ! Personally, I liked the opening act better. It was a young Blondie. I think they had something to do with them eventually too.
So, what did I know?! The band I was in at the time (Thulcandra) was playing progressive rock. Some pretty heavy stuff too. Yeah, by the time the records started getting airplay I understood where they were coming from and became a fan too. And we ended playing at Max's too eventually. Max's, for those who may not know, was across the street from Andy Warhol's studio. He and Truman Capote, and that crowd used to hang out there!...More next time....DC

Bonjovi rocks The Rock (remember The Raritan Manor?)

While Bon Jovi rocks The Rock, who remembers when he played The Raritan Manor on the old Somerville Circle back in the beginning of his career? This club started as a diner with a liquor license and remodeled and opened as a full blown nightclub with a disco room and a rock room before it was sold and turned into a Wiz store. It still is an electronics store. The old owner Nick, is still in the diner business. What Greek isn't? He owns the Menlo Park Diner on Rt.1, the big chrome one by the mall.

In Fact on 10-15-88, The Raritan Manor was the site of Bon Jovi's world premiere fan club party for the start of their "New Jersey" 1988-1990 Tour.

Drumming Barefoot.....

It has been brought to my attention that the replacement drummer for Max W. while he's on tour with Bruce from the Conan show plays barefoot, and that they make a big deal of it. I've been doing it that way for 40 + years kids ! Even in retirement I sit and play when I get a chance for exercise. And no shoes or sox is the only way I play. If I left my sox on they would have holes in them in 5 minutes, because I can still play pretty hard after all these years.
Can you type with gloves on ? Why even bother trying. You think kicking pedals is any easier with size 13 sneaks ? Duhhhh.......

Upcoming TT Quick reunion

Upcoming TT Quick reunion benefit date at Starland Ballroom is not with me on the drums. Sounds like a fun night though. Several bands included.
Not sure who is in current lineup. I have retired from playing and only spend my
time working on new episodes of Not Just RocknRoll. The show takes about 40 hrs. per week to produce and is my full time hobby. After working 40 hrs. a week at my day job there is not enough time to do many other things. Like right now, the sun is out and it's warm out.... I'm taking the Harley out for a ride ! Seee Yaaa !
